
Japanese automaker Toyota's US sales topped domestic producers in sales gains in January over the first month of 2012, an industry research firm said. Autodata reported Friday that Toyota's U.S. sales in January were a 26.6 percent gain over January 2012 with 93,873 cars and 63,852 light trucks sold in the month. U.S. automakers General Motors, Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler posted gains of 15.9 percent, 21.7 percent and 16.4 percent over the same period a year earlier. GM outsold all rivals in January with 194,699 vehicles sold. Ford sold 165,863 vehicles in January. Chrysler sold 117,731, Autodata said. Toyota's total was 157,725 for the month.
