The U.S. dollar changed hands just below the 109 yen line early Thursday in Tokyo.
At 9 a.m., the dollar was quoted at 108.98-99 yen compared with 108.84-94 yen in New York and 109.84-86 yen in Tokyo at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
The euro fetched 1.2623-2624 dollars and 137.57-58 yen against 1.2619-2629 dollars and 137.41-51 yen in New York and 1.2595-2596 dollars and 138.35-39 yen in Tokyo late Wednesday afternoon.
