Silver and gold rose slightly in New York Thursday as the dollar index was little changed, dropping 0.16 percent to 79.68 on the International Exchange. On the New York Mercantile Exchange, gold gained 0.21 percent or $3.60 to reach $1,686.80 per troy ounce. Silver added 0.6 percent or 19 cents to $31.73 per ounce. Against the dollar, the euro rose to $1.3378 from Wednesday's $1.3289. The dollar gained against the yen, hitting 89.90 yen from 88.38 yen. The British pound fell to $1.6002 from $1.6006. The dollar fell to 0.9858 Canadian dollars from 0.9859 Canadian. The dollar also fell against Hong Kong's dollar, dropping from 7.7523 HKD to 7.7522 HKD.
