Gold and silver were split Friday with gold moving lower and silver higher, but movement was muted for each. Gold added 60 cents Monday, reclaiming the same ground it lost Friday, as the precious metal returned to $1,578 per troy ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. Silver gained shed 11 cents to reach $28.85 per ounce, which is 3 cents behind its closing price last Thursday. Against the dollar the euro fell to $1.3002 from Thursday's $1.3107. Against the yen, the dollar was higher at 95.98 yen from 94.83 yen. Against the dollar, the euro rose to $1.3043 from Friday's $1.2986. Against the yen, the dollar was higher at 96.28 yen from 95.98 yen.
