Gold prices rose $3.20 and settled at $1,616 an ounce Tuesday the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. Silver lost 1 cent to settle for $28.08 an ounce. The euro was $1.2356 from $1.24 Monday. Against the yen, the dollar was 78.47 from 78.22 Monday. The British pound was $1.5651 Wednesday from $1.5632 Tuesday. Against the Canadian dollar, the U.S. dollar was 0.9949 Wednesday from 0.9975 on Tuesday.
