Gold prices shed $2.10, settling at $1,617.10 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange Thursday. Silver added 40 cents to hit $28.29 an ounce on the day. Against the euro, the dollar was $1.2358 from $1.2289 Wednesday. Against the yen, the dollar was 79.33 from 78.98 yen. The British pound was $1.5737 from $1.5733. Against the Canadian dollar, the U.S. dollar was 0.9865 Thursday from 0.9867 Wednesday.
