Gold for December delivery rose modestly on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange Thursday. Gold added $3.80 to $1,768.90 per troy ounce with some support provided by the dollar, which was weaker across most of Asia and Europe. Silver shed 9 cents to $34.01 per troy ounce. The euro rose to $1.2926 from Wednesday's $1.2876. Against the yen, the dollar rose to 78.34 yen from 78.19 yen. The dollar index, a pro-rated measure of the dollar's performance against six major currencies, dropped 0.37 percent to 79.80 on the International Exchange.
