Gold prices added $18.60 on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, closing at $1,609.30 an ounce Friday. Silver rose 81 cents to settle at $27.80 an ounce. The euro was $1.2376 from $1.2182 Thursday. Against the yen, the dollar was 78.56 from 78.22 yen Thursday. The British pound was $1.5636 from $1.5515. The U.S. dollar Friday was 1.0015 against Canadian dollars from 1.0071 Canadian the day before.
