Gold for December delivery dropped Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange Friday, sliding 0.75 percent to $1,783 per troy ounce. The dollar index was flat on the International Exchange and equities closed mixed on Wall Street. Economic news for the day pivoted on the U.S. Labor Department's employment situation report. The department said the unemployment rate fell from 8.1 percent to 7.8 percent even though the economy added just 114,000 in the month. Silver on Friday shed 56 cents to $34.54 per troy ounce. The euro rose to $1.3034 from Thursday's $1.3018. Against the yen, the dollar rose to 78.68 yen from 78.50 yen. The British pound fell to $1.6133 from $1.6193. The Australian dollar fell to $1.0185 from Thursday's $1.0421. The dollar fell to 0.9785 Canadian dollars from 0.9803 Canadian. The dollar also fell to 7.7523 Hong Kong dollars from 7.7545 HKD.
