The price for an ounce of gold dropped $24 Tuesday to settle at $1,575.90 on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. Silver lost 71 cents and closed at $27.25 an ounce. Metal futures took a beating as equities returned to making gains and steal the spotlight from commodities. Against the dollar, the euro fell to $1.2822 from Monday's $1.2849. Against the yen, the dollar rose to 93.36 yen from 93.24 yen. The British pound fell to $1.5105 from $1.5231. The dollar dropped to 1.0144 Canadian dollars from 1.0168 Canadian.
