Grain futures were mixed on the Chicago Board of Trade Thursday, with the dollar index flat and equities unable to break out of a slump. Corn was off 2 1/4 to off 3, soybeans were off 5 to off 11 1/4 wheat was up 5 1/2 to up 8 3/4 and oats were off 1 1/2 to unchanged. Corn held even, and then lost ground toward the end of the session. Wheat prices rose with world supplies considered tight after a summer of droughts in the United States and Europe. Soybean prices lost ground as traders expect U.S. yield forecasts to rise in the next Department of Agriculture production report. The prices: Corn: Dec 7.41 1/4 off 3, Mar 7.43 1/4 off 2 3/4, May 7.40 1/4 off 2 1/4, Jly 7.31 off 2 3/4. Soybeans: Nov 14.99 1/4 off 9 1/2, Jan 14.95 3/4 off 11 1/4, Mar 14.76 1/2 off 8 3/4, May 14.56 off 5. Wheat: Dec 9.02 1/2 up 8 1/2, Mar 9.16 1/2 up 8 3/4, May 9.22 1/2 up 8 1/2, Jly 8.95 1/2 up 5 1/2. Oats: 3.63 3/4 off 1 1/2, Mar 3.72 1/2 unchanged, May 3.72 1/2 off 1/4, Jly 3.69 1/2 off 1/4.
