Japanese shares were mixed Tuesday as sentiment was lifted by better-than-expected industrial production data in December but some export-oriented issues were hurt by the yen's rise against the euro and dollar. The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average gained 9.46 points, or 0.11 per cent, to end at 8,802.51 while the broader Topix index was down 1.74 points, or 0.23 per cent, at 755.27. For the month, the Nikkei rose 4.11 per cent and the Topix was up 3.66 per cent.
