
Tokyo stocks plunged Thursday, with the Nikkei index closing 1.79 pc lower as investors locked in recent gains. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 265.32 points, from Wednesday at 14,534.74. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange shed 19.86 points, or 1.63 percent, at 1,199. 74. All of the 33 sector indexes fell, with steel, real estate and air transport issues leading the way. The turnover was 2137.3 billion yen (about 20.92 billion U.S. dollars).
