Tokyo stocks widened their losses at the opening of the afternoon session on Wednesday, with the Nikkei Stock Average falling more than 150 points to trade around 9,030. The benchmark index then traded in a tight range, slightly above the psychologically important 9,000 line, according to the (Nikkei) website. The yen strengthened against the dollar and the euro, weighing on exporters. More than 80% of the issues listed on the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange were down. Weak stocks in Shanghai, Hong Kong and South Korea also fettered the Tokyo market.
