Tokyo stocks rose Tuesday for the third trading day amid a weaker yen and growing hopes that Britain will vote to remain in the European Union in a referendum this week.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 203.81 points, or 1.28%, from Monday at 16,169.11. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 14.71 points, or 1.15%, higher at 1,293.90, according to Japan's (Kyodo) News Agency.
Gainers were led by pharmaceuticals, food and real estate issues.
