Tokyo stocks closed sharply higher Wednesday, with the Nikkei Stock Average jumping 150.24 points, or 1.49%, and ending at the day's high of 10,230.36. The benchmark index topped 10,200 for the first time since March 27, when the index hit its year-to-date high, according to (Nikkei) website. The dollar rose to the lower-85 yen range, its strongest in about one year and eight months. Expectations for improved corporate earnings prompted investors to buy exporters. Trading value on the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange totaled about 1.32 trillion yen on a preliminary basis.
