Tokyo stocks open higher on Wall Street gains

Tokyo stocks opened sharply higher Friday morning, bolstered by the dollar's firmness in the lower 109 yen range and overnight gains on Wall Street.
At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 208.09 points, or 1.33 percent, from Thursday to 15,866.29.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange jumped 16.71 points, or 1.31 percent, at 1, 295.61.
Major gainers included precision instruments, brokerage and consumer finance issues.
