
Japanese shares were up over 2 per cent at the close of trading Friday, following upbeat global manufacturing data, dpa reported. The benchmark Nikkei index of 225 leading shares gained 295.38 points, or 2.21 per cent, to close at 13,660.55. The broader-based Topix index rose 1.97 per cent, or 22.07 points, to close at 1,141.63. Leading Japanese business daily Nikkei ascribed the rise to robust manufacturing data from China, Europe and the United States.
