The prolonged economic crisis and recession in the past few months have led Spanish people to change their eating habits and free time activities. 81% of Spanish people, over 8 out of 10, has changed what their purchases are due to the crisis, well over the 74% which other European people have done, according to a report done by Nielsen and presented in Madrid at the Tecnomarketing Congress of the Association of Producers and Distributors. According to the report, 65% have reduced their recreation and free time activities and basically 48%, one Spaniard out of two, has changed their actual diet, buying cheaper products. These savings seem to be confirmed by the fall of products bought in Spain, for the second year running, according to figures reported by the Spanish federation of food and beverages. The key issue is to return to basic and necessary consumption, through the purchase of white label products, preferred by 80% of Spanish people, of whom the large majority (94%) are sure that they will continue to buy white label products even after the crisis. This isn't the same for free time activities though, considering that only 20% of people interviewed say they will continue this way once the crisis is over and the economy picks up again.(ANSAmed).
