Ganzouri: Egypt spent $260 million on elections

Egypt has spent LE1.6 billion ($260 million) to date on post-Mubarak parliamentary and presidential elections, the country's interim Prime Minister Kamal El-Ganzouri said at a news conference on Wednesday. He did not give further details of how this sum was spent. Ganzouri also pledged a fair runoff election in mid-June, saying the government and Egypt's ruling military council do not favour either of the two candidates. Egyptians are due to head to polling stations once again on 16-17 June in a second-round presidential vote which pits Mubarak-era prime minister Ahmed Shafiq against the Muslim Brotherhood’s Mohamed Mursi.
