
Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry welcomed Syria's ceasefire agreement that was declared Thursday, asserting the utmost importance of developing a joint vision by Syrian national powers to end the current political crisis sweeping the country and start serious talks on Syria's future.
Shoukry made the remarks remarks on the sidelines of his meeting with Ahmed al-Jarba, the leader of the Syrian opposition movement Syria’s Tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Shoukry underscored the importance of hammering out an accord by the Syrian opposition that guarantees stopping bloodshed, meeting the Syrians' aspirations and preserving Syria's unity and safety, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said.
Egypt's top diplomat, on that score, affirmed the importance of the participation of Cairo group of the Syrian opposition in any future political negotiations.
The Egyptian minister also reviewed Cairo's efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis in light of Egypt's membership in the UN Security Council, Abu Zeid said.
Al-Jarba, for his part lauded Egypt's key role in supporting all ceasefire efforts, delivering humanitarian aid to the Syrian people in addition to hosting Cairo group of the Syrian opposition.
