2 Byzantine coins unearthed in Beheira

A mission from Italy's Milan University unearthed two gold coins in Beheira governorate dating back to the Byzantine era. The first coin is 1 millimeter thick and 2.1 centimeter wide and weighs 4,300 grams. The face of Byzantine Emperor Phocas appears on one side of the coin holding in his right hand a cross with the name of the emperor inscribed above. The other side holds the king's picture with a stick in his right hand and a cross in his left hand, the head of archeological administration in northern Egypt Adel Hussein said. The other coin is 1 millimeter thick and 1.9 centimeter wide and weighs 4,270 grams. The face of Byzantine Emperor Heraclius appears on one side of the coin with his sons Constantine III to the right and Heraklonas to the left, Hussein said. A swastika on a ladder appears on the other side of the coin, he said.
