Spanish Consul General in Alexandria Jorge de Lucas asserted on Sunday that Andalusia civilization showed one aspect of Alexandria multi-cultural civilization.
He said Arab Spaniards played an important role in transferring Greek scientific theories written in Alexandria to Spain and supporting the scientific and cultural renaissance there.
The Spanish diplomat made such remarks during the inauguration of "Andalusia in Alexandria" conference, organized by Alexandria University, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA).
The conference addresses the relationship between Andalusia and Alexandria in the fields of economic, management, philosophy, science, the arts, law, history and political science.
For his part, Alexandria Governor Tarek Mahdi said the conference highlighted the global identity of Alexandria, a destination for many western scientists and intellectuals.
