Antep Baklava, a sweet pastry with nuts identified with the southeastern Turkish province of Gaziantep, is now registered by the EU under the name Antep Baklava. There are certain products to which Turkey and Greece claim ownership, and Baklava was one of them. In relation to the registry of Antep Baklava, the EU affirmed the application of the Gaziantep Chamber of Industry in 2009 as the third party. Four years of investigation by the European Commission concluded, and the official application form of Antep Baklava was published in the Official Paper of the EU. However, within the scope of the EU legislation, the application is registered if there is no objection to the application within three months of its publication in the Official Paper. However, if there is an objection by a third party country or real or legal third person, then the registry period takes more time. So if there is no objection to the application, the registry of Antep Baklava will be completed. - Bagis: “We recommend those who think that their EU pie share will shrink when Turkey becomes a full member to the EU to take insipiration from the taste of Antep Baklava” EU Affairs Minister and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis said in a statement concerning the issue that they followed the application by the Gaziantep Chamber of Industry and had registered another part of Turkey's rich culture to the EU. Referring to the development of Gaziantep, Bagis stated that Gaziantep is the best example of advanced development when there is no terrorism.
