
The High Judicial Council(HJC) has today signed a key cooperation agreement with the National Institution of Human Rights (NIHR) at the headquarters of the Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowment Ministry.
Under the deal, the two sides pledge to promote the principles of human rights, exchange expertise and arrange training courses and workshops for the judges of the future. A joint committee will be established a month after the signing of the memorandum of cooperation to draw up an executive plan as part of a long-term strategy.
HJC Chief, Court of Cassation President Salem Al-Kawari underscored the importance of the agreement in fostering human rights and protecting the litigants’ dignity, describing the deal as a cornerstone to develop the judiciary and ensure fair justice.
He pointed out that all judges would be trained on judicial standards and human rights principles, pointing out plans to incorporate modern technology to streamline judicial procedures.
NIHR Secretary-General Dr Ahmed Abdulla Farhan pointed out plans to set up a joint taskforce which will be assigned to draw up a long-term strategy and design a training workshop with the aim of elaborating a modern vision for the development of the judiciary.
