Cairo University anounced that they will be conducting rennovations on the theatre space in the student housing area of campus, as well as providing equipment required for theatrical activities. They will also be reorganising the boarrd of the theatre which will now include a number of public figures in the fields of theatre and cinema. Heba Nassa, president of the organisational board of the theatre unit, said that the developments of the theatre are well underway. The theatre opened in 2003 with a performance of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” which was presented by the Center for Artistic Creative, affliated with the Ministry of Culture. The centre aims to develop theatrical culture in the university and among the students. Nassa also said that the university strives to open cooperation channels with a number of public institutions n the fields of theatre and cinema such as the National Center for Cinema, the Fine Arts Academy, the Sector for Culture Production of the Cairo Opera House, to enrich the process of developing and nurturing the talents of university students. Along with making the University’s theatre a unique space where performances and theatrical competitions with other universties and performances can be held, they also want to provide talented students with the opportunity to go through training programmes in theatre, . Dr Rasha Ahmed Ismail, the manager of the Theatrical Unit of the Cairo University, said that the new organisational board will include a number of experts in theatre and cinema including Dr Khaled Abdel-Galil President of the National Centre for Cinema, Dr Mostafa Sultan former Dean of High Institute of Artistic Theatre along with professors from the Faculty of Arts.
