The 9th Pyongyang international science and technology book fair kicked off here Tuesday, drawing publishers from more than 10 countries and international organizations.
"The science and technology are the driving force of progress and development, and happiness of the people and future of a country hinge on them," said Kim Jong Suk, chairwoman of Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries.
"As required by the era, Pyongyang international science and technology book fair contributes to achieving common progress of mankind and promoting friendly and cooperation relations among different countries of the world," she stressed at the opening ceremony.
Booksellers from countries including China, Russia, Germany, Britain, France, Canada, Egypt, and the United States, as well as international organizations like the World Health Organization were present at the fair.
Books displayed covered a broad range of areas including electronics, engineering, health and medical research, nutriology, architecture, horticulture and education.
The science and technology book fair, launched in 2000, will run on Sept. 16-18 at Grand People's Study House.
