Deputy Director General of Public Authority for Youths and Sports (PAYS) Hamoud Fulaitah stressed Sunday that the GCC Youths Committee approved a Kuwaiti request to host the folklore games festival for youths next January.
In a press statement after the 25th meeting of the GCC Youths Committee, Fulaitah said that the festival was planned to be hosted by Qatar but the plan was changed after Kuwait presented a request to host the event which will coincide with other national celebrations.
The meeting, he added, discussed several topics and produced recommendations which will be reviewed in tomorrow's meeting of undersecretaries of the GCC ministries of Youths and Sport.
He noted the recommendations include the approval of Jordan and Morocco's participation in some youth activities.
The gathering also discussed several measures related to the Gulf youths, including paying visits by the GCC youths to Europe in order to change the "untrue image" of some foreign countries toward these youths, he pointed out.
This move, he added, will show to these countries that the GCC youths are cultured and moderate and believe in dialogue and the multiplicity of religions.
He said the meeting also dealt with setting up a new strategy for the committee's activities based on distributing roles and giving top priorities to youths.
In his speech, Fulaitah praised the efforts by the general secretariat of the committee in organizing several workshops over the last period to meet with youths and listen to their demands and aspirations.
The next meeting of the GCC ministries of Youths and Sports, based on these workshops' activities, will make real reports on hopes of youths in the upcoming period, he stressed.
Officials from the GCC Youths and Sport Committee attended the meeting.
