
His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah will sponsor the upcoming Kuwait Major Competition for Quran Memorization and Recitation, announced the Secretary General of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Abdulmohsen Al-Kharafi.
"In line with his unlimited support to all initiatives and activities that aims to preserve the Islamic religion, His Highness the Amir will sponsor the Kuwait's Major Competition for Quran Memorization and Recitation," Al-Kharafi said in a press conference Sunday.
He stated the contest is meant to encourage citizens, of various ages, to rush and dedicate themselves to the Book of Allah through memorization, recitation, and careful consideration and to prepare a generation of reciters and memorizers who represent Kuwait in international competitions.
Al-Kharafi encouraged different Kuwaiti bodies to present nominees for the competition.
He pointed out that this year's edition will include a new division for Qira'at, or Quran readings. There are also sections for children, youth and people with special needs.
For his part, Head of the Competition Organizing Committee and Deputy Chief of Kuwait Awqaf Public Foundation (KAPF) Mohammad Jalahma said the competition made seen remarkable development in the past few years.
Over 30 bodies partook in last year's edition, he said.
He stated that the competitor must be of Kuwaiti nationality, should be nominated by one of the bodies participating in the competition.
A competitor is not entitled to participate in more than one category or section, and a winner in a specific category or section is not entitled to return to compete again, Al-Jalahma said, adding that the Winner in a specific section is not entitled to compete in a lower one.
