Between 8-17 May, in collaboration with consulates and cultural institutions throughout Chicago, the International Voices Project (IVP) aims to celebrate the voices of global writers by presenting readings and performances of rarely seen plays and playwrights from around the world. This year, Egypt is the only country to participate from the African continent and Arab countries. Other countries taking part in the IVP are Argentina, France, Canada, Ukraine, Germany, Sweden and Switzerland. From Egypt, on 15 May, the IVP will preform to audiences "Comedy of Sorrows" (Commedia Al-Ahzaan) written by Ibrahim El-Husseini and translated by Mohammed Albakry and Rebekah Maggor. The play is directed by James McDermott. The play presents Egypt's awakening during the January 25 Revolution through the eyes of a young university-educated Egyptian woman who encounters different members of society. The event will be held at the Consulate General of Egypt in Chicago while other performances and readings of IVP will take place in a number of venues across Chicago.
