The minister of State for Information Affairs, and the Government spokesperson, Mrs. Sameera Ebrahim bin Rajab, participated in the conference "Fikr 11", organized by the Arab Thought Foundation under the theme "the citizen and government: a vision of the future". Mrs. Rajab presented a worksheet under the theme of "modern means of communication and forming the public opinion: redistribution of media power? Or a means of masking the truth?" The Minister spoke of the role of modern means of communication, such as social media and blogs, stressing on their role in forming the public opinion. She underlined that those means are sometimes led by virtual pressure, but they have a large impact, are widespread and transcontinental. The minister also warned from the negative results that could reflect on the whole community, because of lack of regulations, and as it is difficult to verify the credibility of the information. The Minister urged governments to take those media outlets positively, and to work on regulating them all while preserving the freedom of opinion and expression.
