A technical committee was formed from various relevant bodies to prepare technical specializations and proposals to implement Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) in Egypt, said Transportation Minsiter Hani Dahi.
The aim of using ITS is to upgrade operating system and safety of the road network and attain satisfaction for users of the road network, he added in statements Monday.
The first phase of the project includes implementing intelligent systems for traffic management on roads, enforcing traffic rules and safe driving, reducing accidents, automating traffic violation systems and collection of fees, reducing congestion and pollution, he explained.
The first phase of the project will be implemented on Cairo-Suez, Wadi el Natrun road-el Alamin, Ring Road, Alexandria road from Carrefour until the toll station, he added.
The ITS are advanced applications which, without embodying intelligence as such, aim to provide innovative services relating to different modes of transport and traffic management and enable various users to be better informed and make safer, more coordinated, and 'smarter' use of transport networks.
