Theatre in Fashion lands at Villa Manin

After the clamorous success in various parts of the world, Il Teatro alla Moda (“Theatre in Fashion. Stage Costumes. Grand Designers.”) lands at Villa Manin in Passariano di Codroipo (Udine). One-hundred original costumes, created for famous theatrical performances and concerts, from the operatic to the choral, will be on show, along with sketches, fashion-plates and rare documentary footage from the various performances included. The items on display feature the creations of some of the most important Italian designers, e.g. Gianni Versace, Roberto Capucci, Emanuel Ungaro, Missoni, Antonio Marras, Alberta Ferretti, Valentino and Enrico Coveri. The exhibit covers a timespan from 1982 to the present day; some of the stand-out pieces include Versace’s contribution to the costumes for Josephlegende at Milan’s La Scala, and the recent production of La Clemenza di Tito at Teatro San Carlo in Naples, with costumes designed by Ungaro. This evocative presentation, curated especially for Villa Manin, also shows off several other big hits, including the multi-colored costumes by Missoni for Lucia di Lammermoor at La Scala (1983); the costumes of the Vestal Virgins in Casta Diva (Verona Arena, 1986), an homage from Capucci to Maria Callas; and those by Alberta Ferretti for Bizet’s Carmen at the Terme di Caracalla (2001). Also chronicled are wardrobes designed for the most important performer in theatre, opera and contemporary dance: poi abiti appositamente disegnati per i più grandi interpreti del teatro, dell’opera e della danza contemporanei come: Luciano Pavarotti, Montserrat Caballè, Katia Ricciarelli, Cecilia Gasdia, Luciana Savignano, Carla Fracci, Teresa Stratas and Luciana Serra.
