Who said you can only enjoy art at a museum? Moscow’s Metro is rushing to enrich Muscovites’ cultural awareness with a special train featuring art reproductions doing the rounds of the city’s underground. The new moving display will feature the works of renowned Russian avant-garde artists on the walls of carriages. Thirty-five watercolor works, including creations by Kazimir Malevich, Mikhail Vrubel, Karl Brullov, Mikhail Larionov and others, were selected by curators at Moscow’s Tretyakov Gallery. This is the fifth launch of the Watercolor train – the first one was introduced in 2007. Since May 2009 the train-gallery displayed masterpieces from the St Petersburg-based Russian Museum. In 2010 it was decorated with works from the collection of Moscow’s Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. This year’s display coincides with the 77th anniversary of the Moscow Metro. Earlier in the spring, the Moscow Metro also unveiled the next edition of a literary train, featuring poetry from Gabriel García Marquez. The Metro plans to continue promoting literature by famous writers for passengers
