
Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit had talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on the latest developments of the Palestinian cause.
During the meeting that took place on the sidelines of the 71st UN General Assembly meeting in New York, Abul Gheit asserted his strong and firm commitment to serve the Palestinian cause as "the central issue of the Arab nation," AL Secretary Spokesman Mahmoud Afifi said in statements on Tuesday.
The two sides also reviewed the outcome of contacts held by the AL secretary general with regional and international parties on means of reaching a permanent settlement to the Palestinian issue and establishing an independent state with Al Quds (occupied east Jerusalem) as its capital, the spokesman said.
During the meeting, the Palestinian president expressed his appreciation of the AL secretary's efforts in this regard, stressing the importance of the Arab League's role in resolving the Palestinian issue, the spokesman added.
