
Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit held a meeting with visiting Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al Maliki on the latest Palestinian developments.
During the meeting, Maliki underlined the need to resort to the United Nations Security Council to adopt a resolution to condemn Israeli settlement activities on Palestinian lands and provide international protection to the Palestinian people.
The meeting took place before the convention of 146th round of the Arab League Council at the foreign ministers’ level in Cairo. Tunisian Foreign Minister Khamis al Jehinawi was present in the meeting as chair of the current round of the council.
They also discussed efforts to call for an international peace conference under the French initiative to reach an effective mechanism to end the Israeli occupation of Palestine under a set timetable.
