
Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, Speaker of the Arab Parliament has held a series of meetings in Geneva with United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Prince Zeid bin Ra'ad, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Filippo Grandi and Director-General of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), William Swing.
During the meeting, Al Jarwan presented to them the Arab Parliament's initiative regarding the protection of the Syrian refugees and the importance of unification of all Arab, regional and international efforts in this respect.
The Arab Parliament speaker called on the High Commissioner for Human Rights to work with the Arab Parliament in order to achieve these humanitarian objectives in light of the worsening conditions of the Syrian refugees in some countries.
For his part, Prince Zeid commended the tireless efforts of the Arab Parliament and its speaker to protect the rights of the Syrian refugees, praising the initiative of the Arab Parliament. He pledged to work together with the Arab Parliament to implement this initiative.
Al Jarwan also met with Filippo Grandi, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and reviewed with him the Arab Parliament initiative on protection of the rights of the Syrian refugees.
Grandi welcomed the initiative of the Arab Parliament, thanking the Arab Parliament's efforts and stressed the importance of the Parliament's proposal to make use of the Syrian expertise at the refuge centres, especially in the areas of teaching and professional jobs, to work in some poor African countries. Grandi welcomed the proposal.
Al Jarwan and the accompanying delegation also met with William Swing, Director-General of the International Organisation for Migration. The two sides reviewed the Syrian refugees' issue, and the need to consolidate international efforts to protect their rights. They also reviewed the Arab parliament's initiative to protect the rights of the Syrian refugees. Swing expressed willingness to participate in any action that would protect the rights of refugees.
