
Arab League (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit has met with former Tanzanian president and the African Union (AU)’s Special Envoy to Libya Jakaya Kikwete in the presence of the UN Special Envoy to Libya Martin Kobler, the AL chief spokesman Mahmoud Afifi said in a statement on Thursday.
During the meeting, organized on the sidelines of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, they discussed the latest developments of the Libyan crisis and the outcomes reached during the Arab ministerial meeting held on September 8, including Arab foreign ministers’ decision to appoint a special envoy to the AL chief on the Libyan crisis, Afifi added.
Kikwete briefed Abul Gheit on the results of his talks in this regard, according to Afifi.
At the end of the meeting, the two officials agreed to boost coordination among the AL, the AU and the UN to resolve the Libyan crisis, Afifi underlined.
