
Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit met on Tuesday with the Chairman of Arab Human Rights Committee, the Charter Committee, Dr. Hadi bin Ali Al-Yami at the headquarters of the League's General Secretariat.
In a statement following the meeting, Dr. Al-Yami said that strengthening the role of the Charter Committee during the next phase is important.
He said that he briefed the Secretary General in the independent mechanism of the Arab Charter and what it had achieved during the last stage as well as the importance of strengthening its role in the next phase.
Dr. Al-Yami added that the Secretary General of the Arab League expressed during the meeting all the support for this Committee under the provisions of the Arab Charter and promised to facilitate all the challenges and obstacles facing the Committee to achieve its goals.
Regarding the situation in Syria and Yemen, the Chairman of Arab Human Rights Committee said that they talked during the meeting about the legal files and role of the Committee in this matter and agreed that there will be future meetings to strengthen the Committee's role in accordance with the provisions of the Arab Charter on Human Rights.
