Arab League Secretary General Nabil el Arabi received on Sunday French Mideast peace envoy Pierre Vimont, currently visiting here.
They discussed the recent contacts with parties concerned with peace talks to revive peace negotiations between the Palestinians and Israel.
A statement issued by the Arab League said Arabi welcomed efforts exerted by the French government to hold an international peace conference to resume talks between the Palestinians and Israel.
According to the statement, Arabi expressed hope for the success of the conference to put and end to Israeli occupation and establish a Palestinian state with al Quds (East Jerusalem) as its capital.
Arabi is also scheduled to meet later in the day with Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyadh el Maliki for talks on the French initiative and the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories.
