Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Mohamed Abdel Aati discussed Monday with Australian Ambassador to Egypt Neil Hawkins means of promoting cooperation in water management.
The meeting took up Australia’s expertise in dealing with water scarcity at the Murray and Darling rivers and how it raised public awareness about water rationalization and preserving it against pollution, Abdel Aati said.
The ministry is currently organizing a national media campaign to raise public awareness about Egypt’s water challenges in light of the limited water resources available at the time against the growing needs of all sectors, he said.
He pointed out to a number of projects in Sinai aimed at benefiting from rainwater and storing flood water, he said.
