
Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received on Thursday morning his Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim Al-Jaafari, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said.
The meeting discussed means of fostering bilateral relations in political and security fields as well as efforts exerted to confront terrorism and extremism.
During the meeting, Shoukry asserted Egypt’s keenness on supporting Iraq and efforts to maintain its unity and sovereignty.
Meanwhile, Jaafari hailed Egypt’s historic and crucial role in the region that aims to sustain security and stability in the Arab world.
Jaafari reviewed Shoukry with the latest political and security developments in Iraq especially efforts to liberate a number of Iraq cities from Daesh terrorist group.
Shoukry also said he is looking forward to holding the joint committee meeting at the level of foreign ministers in February in order to coordinate and cooperate in the latest regional and international developments as well as supporting infrastructure in Iraq and combating terrorism.
