
Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met in Washington on Friday with head of the Appropriations Committee of the US House of Representatives Kay Granger.
The meeting tackled means of boosting Egyptian-US relations, including a program of US aid to Egypt, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said in press statements.
The US representative hailed as "strategic" relations between the two countries, stressing that Egypt is of special importance to the US due to Cairo's regional role amid the unrest in the Middle East, the spokesman said.
Shoukry, for his part, expounded to Granger the political transition process Egypt is going through and efforts exerted by the government to enhance the economy, he added.
