Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Turkmen counterpart Rashid Meredow on Saturday underlined the need for the further expansion of mutual cooperation.
During the meeting in the Iranian capital, Zarif and Meredow explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating bilateral ties, Fars News reported.
"The two countries' leaders are much interested in broadening their relations," Zarif said.
The Iranian foreign minister underlined that Tehran and Ashgabat can boost their mutual cooperation in barter trade, transit and transportation.
The Turkmen foreign minister, for his part, pointed to the status quo of Iran-Turkmenistan relations, and said, "The two countries' age-old relations are fortunately expanding everyday and I hereby invite you to pay an official visit to Turkmenistan."
In a relevant development in February, Iran and Turkmenistan agreed to increase the value of bilateral trade to $60 billion over the next decade, said Iranian Vice President for Executive Affairs Mohammad Shariatmadari.
