Egyptian-Mauritanian relations witnessed a boost after the discussions held between President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his Mauritanian counterpart Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz who is currently visiting Egypt.
The two leaders agreed on promoting bilateral cooperation in various domains and witnessed the inking of six agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoU).
A report prepared by the presidential media office mentioned that the bilateral ties began when Egypt played a vital role in settling the conflict that erupted between Mauritania and Senegal in 1989 via signing a peace agreement between the two countries.
The relations were revived when Sisi met with Abdel Aziz in New York in September, 2015 on the sidelines of the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly where Sisi expressed Egypt's keenness on boosting joint ties.
