Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al Maliki held talks with French Middle East envoy Pierre Vimont on efforts to hold an international peace conference under the French initiative to reach an effective mechanism to end the 1967 Israeli occupation of Palestine under a set timetable.
During the meeting held on the sidelines of the 146th round of the Arab foreign ministers in Cairo, Maliki expressed support for the French initiative, adding that a session will be held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York later this month for holding the international peace conference before the end of the year.
He said the Israeli occupation of Palestine in 1967 should be ended and an independent Palestinian state should be established with East Jerusalem as its capital.
