
HE Minister of Economy and Commerce Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Thani met Thursday in Doha with a British Parliamentary delegation, chaired by MP Alistair Carmichael.
The talks focused on bilateral relations as well as ways to improve bilateral cooperation in economy, commerce, and investment fields.
Trade volume between the State of Qatar and the United Kingdom in 2015 reached QR19.4 billion. The UK is Qatar's sixth largest trading partner. The total number of British companies operating in the country are around 79. The majority of them operate in the fields of oil and gas, infrastructure, and information technology with a total capital of QR8.1 billion. The total number of Qatari-British partnerships operating in Qatar were around 672 companies. They work in consultancy, engineering, information technology among other fields.
Both countries signed a number of agreements and Memorandums of Understandings that focus on providing incentives and protection to investments. They also have a strategic agreement for investment in clean energy. Other agreements the two sides signed include one for avoiding tax duplicity, and a Memorandum of Understanding for preparing an Atlas of Islamic-World Science and Innovation.
