Slovenian President Borut Pahor and Jordan's Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh on Sunday discussed the two countries' bilateral cooperation in the parliamentary field and ways of enhancing and developing it to serve the interests of both countries and peoples.
During the meeting, Tarawneh said Jordan upholds international law when dealing with the refugees, expressing appreciation for the European countries' support to the refugees, Petra news agency said.
The speaker stressed the importance of forming parliamentary friendship committees to serve common issues, especially in the field of activating bilateral relations at various levels.
The Slovenian president said the situation in the Middle East is complex and reaching a solution to its crises is not easy.
He said he had an opportunity to look closely at the process of reform and democracy taking place in Jordan, which positively affects the entire region. It also helped his country to understand what is going on in Jordan and the region.
Also, Jordan's Senate President Faisal Fayez was received to discuss relations between the two countries and political developments in the Middle East, including the Syrian crisis and the Palestinian issue.
Fayez said that Jordan remained resilient in political and security terms, but the country is facing a huge economic hardship due to the services it provides to a large number of Syrian refugees, which drain a big portion of the state budget.
Fayez briefed the Slovenian leader on the reform process in Jordan, which is a model for moderation and tolerance.
Pahor said he recognized Jordan's efforts to enhance security and stability in the Middle East.
