Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the UAE, and Abdel-Malek al-Mekhlafi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Yemen, have met on the sidelines of the emergency meeting of the Arab League Council of Foreign Ministers to discuss developments in Yemen and the progress of political efforts.
They stressed that any successful political solution in Yemen can only be based on the Gulf Cooperation Council's Initiative, the outcome of the National Dialogue Conference and the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2216. They also stressed that the rebels' commitment to the agreed ceasefire and the release of all detainees are among the essential steps towards a successful political track in Yemen.
The meeting also tackled the humanitarian and relief situation in Yemen and the legitimate government's efforts to restore life to normal in areas liberated from the rebels and repair the destruction caused by the coup against the government.
The Yemeni foreign minister thanked the Arab Coalition for making efforts to support legitimacy and taking a historic stance to conduct Operation Decisive Storm and Operation Restoring Hope.
He also praised the UAE for contributing towards these efforts and making sacrifices for the security and stability of Yemen.
Ambassador of the UAE to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Mohammed Nakhira Al Dhaheri, and Director of the Department of Arab Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Jasim Al Khaloufi, attended the meeting.
