
The Secretary-General of the Arab League Dr. Nabil Elaraby strongly condemned the recent acts of violence against peaceful protesters in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, that killed and wounded dozens of innocent civilians. He called on all Libyan parties to support the efforts of the government and the General National Congress to restore security and stability in the country. Dr. Nabil Elaraby expressed in a statement today deep concern and sorrow over the bloody events taking place in the capital Tripoli, stressing that the acts of violence put the country in front of a critical juncture. The statement warned of the risk of the escalation of armed confrontations among militias and armed elements, the increasing of violence acts and the targeting of unarmed civilian demonstrators and public and private properties, calling on all parties to exercise wisdom and restraint and to make joint efforts to achieve calm and restore the spirit of dialogue and harmony among all components of the Libyan people.
